On September 9, 2011 Caravati was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor assault against his wife.[1][3] Ron Morris, the Commonwealth's Attorney in Greene County, was appointed as a special prosecutor. [4] Caravati appeared in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on October 21, 2011 and was ordered to undergo nine months of counseling. [5]

Caravati has described himself as the "swing vote" on the Meadowcreek Parkway[6].
"I had campaigned against it-- then changed my mind as an elected official," Caravati said.
