Blake Caravati served on City Council from 1999 to 2006 and was Mayor of Charlottesville from 2000 to 2002. He was elected as Mayor on July 3, 2000. [1]

Arrest
On September 9, 2011 Caravati was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor assault against his wife.[2][3] Ron Morris, the Commonwealth's Attorney in Greene County, was appointed as a special prosecutor. [4] Caravati appeared in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on October 21, 2011 and was ordered to undergo nine months of counseling. [5]

Caravati has described himself as the "swing vote" on the Meadowcreek Parkway. [6]
"I had campaigned against it-- then changed my mind as an elected official," Caravati said.

Caravati ran as a Democrat in both elections. He opted not to seek a third term in early January 2006. [7]
