Benjamin Franklin Hurt

Benjamin Franklin Hurt (1918-2018) served for many years as a long-time educator in Albemarle County. Agnor-Hurt Elementary School is partially named for him. [1]

Biography

Hurt grew up in Farmville and graduated from Hampden-Sydney College with an undergraduate and Master's degrees. He was hired by Albemarle County Public Schools as a teacher prior to the outbreak of World War II. He was drafted and saw action in North Africa and Italy. After his return he resumed teaching and was named as principal of Albemarle High School in 1954, a position he held until 1984.
