Ash Lawn Opera began in 1978 with a series of concerts and one-act operas performed during the summer at Ash Lawn-Highland, the home of President James Monroe. Today, the year-round company offers six weeks of opera each summer, plus additional productions in the winter and spring. In 2008 the company moved to the beautifully renovated, historic Paramount Theater on Charlottesville's downtown pedestrian mall. [1].
