The [[Albemarle County Planning Commission]] is a seven-member body that provides guidance to the [[Board of Supervisors]] on issues of planning and development. Six of its members serve four-year terms and are appointed by each member of the Board of Supervisors. A seventh is elected at-large and serves a two-year term. According to County Code, Comissioners are charged with promoting "the orderly development of Albemarle County and its environment." They make $4100 a year, and whoever serves as chair gets an extra $1500.

The Albemarle County Planning Commission is an eight-member body that provides guidance to the Board of Supervisors on issues of planning and development.


Six of its members serve four-year terms and are appointed by each member of the Albemarle Board of Supervisors to represent a specific magisterial district. A seventh is selected by the Board to be at-large and also serves a four-year term. One member is selected among the commissioners to serve as Chair. [1]

The President of the University of Virginia selects a non-voting member, a practice in place since 1986 with the Three-Party Agreement between Albemarle, Charlottesville, and UVA. [2] [citation needed]
