The Virginia Department of Transportation is planning on a $51 project to widen U.S. 29 from Polo Grounds Road to Hollymead Town Center to six lanes. [1] [2]
The project was originally approved by the Commonwealth Transportation Board in July 2012 at the same meeting in which $197.4 million in additional funds were allocated to the Western Bypass of U.S. 29. The CTB added additional money to the project in June 2014 when the bypass was defunded. [3]
The project is now part of the design build contract for three projects recommended by Philip Shcuet as part of the Route 29 Advisory Panel and overseen by the Route 29 Project Delivery Advisory Panel.
This project had been called for in the Places29 Master Plan.
