- February 4 – Charlottesville became the first city in the country to pass a drone resolution. In a 3-2 vote, members of the Charlottesville City Council (2012-2013) passed a resolution placing a two-year moratorium on the use of drones within city limits. [1]
- May 20 – Charlottesville City Council approves human rights ordinance [2]
Deaths
- September 10 – Randy Lee McKinstry, 18, dies when his motorcycle slams into a GMC Yukon on East Rio Road that was turning left into Pen Park. Police say speed was a contributing factor, and this is the sixth traffic fatality in Albemarle this year.[3]
- December 8 – Richard "Dick" Hamilton Barrick - former Charlottesville Commonwealth's Attorney (aged 83) [4]
