- September 7 – First edition of the Charlottesville Observer is published. [1]
Deaths
- July 20 – Mary Truehart Woodfolk dies at the age of 95 and is buried in Lincoln Cemetery. An active member of Mount Zion First African Baptist Church, Woodfolk had helped her daughters organize their own quartet known as the "Woodfolk Family Singers" and would later become the namesake of Woodfolk Drive within the Ridge Street neighborhood.
