  • The population of Charlottesville was for the first time taken separately from that of the county in 1870, its numbers were 2,838.

  • Scottsville suffered one of the worst floods in its history.
*Major industries in the Town of Charlottesville were the Charlottesville Wollen Mills, R. F. Harris & Sons, a business that manufactured and supplied farm equipment, and Charlottesville Milling and Manufacturing Co., a wagon and carriage manufacturer.
