William Hannibal Prout

William Hannibal Prout (1851-1901) was a journalist and editor who worked for several area publications in the late 19th century. [1]

Biography

Prout was born in Cairo, New York in September 1851. He moved to the area at some point in his early life and established and edited the Gordonsville Gazette. He moved to Charlottesville in the 1880's to become editor of the Charlottesville Jeffersonian Republican.

Prout was elected as a justice of the peace shortly before dying.

He married Annie Johnson of Charlottesville with whom he had six children.
