The Wertland Street Historic District, located in western Charlottesville, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. This historic district, which was added to the Virginia Landmarks Register in 1984, has high style Queen Anne, Colonial Revival and Victorian homes. During the 1880’s Wertland Street became a popular neighborhood in the University area. The north side boasts the earliest properties with large setbacks. Structures on the south side are built closer to the street on smaller lots. Due to its proximity to the University, many structures have been converted to multi-family use with student tenants.[1]
