The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality aims to protect and enhance Virginia's environment and to promote the health and well-being of the Commonwealth of Virginia's citizens.[1]

Environmental Preservation

In 2011, the Virginia DEQ announced a 33.8% recycling rate for the Thomas Jefferson Planning District. This was a 4.6% increase from the 2010 level of 29.2%. Additionally, the DEQ found the following rate increase:[2]

Material Rate increase
Paper 37%
Metal 70%
Electronics 27%
Antifreeze 68%
