Union Ridge was a community in Albemarle County that centered around the Hydraulic Mills commercial area in the 19th century. [1] The community was centered around the junction of Ivy Creek and the South Fork of the Rivanna River. [2]
The mills there were attacked by Union troops during the Civil War and were damaged in a great flood that happened in 1870. During this same time frame, the area was home to the Union Ridge Graded School, with the six children of Hugh Carr (brother-in-law of Cain Hawkins) having attended this school.[3]
The land was inundated in the 1960's when the South Fork Rivanna Reservoir was created.
