The Central Virginia Partnership for Economic Development, formally known as the Thomas Jefferson Partnership for Economic Development (TJPED), combines public and private resources to create job opportunities in the Greater Charlottesville Region. [1]

Initial resistance

For many years, there were members of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors who were skeptical of joining the group. A vote had been scheduled for August 6, 2003, but Albemarle Supervisor Dennis Rooker had questions about whether the group was subject to Virginia's Freedom of Information Act. A group called Advocates for a Sustainable Albemarle Population were also opposed. [3]

Personnel

Helen Cauthen took over as the new executive director of TJPED on February 1, 2012. She was formerly the CEO of Team Volusia Economic Development Corporation in Volusia County, Florida. One reason she has cited for taking the job is that her son is a student at the University of Virginia. [4]
