Thomas Alonzo Trice (August 17, 1846 - November 7, 1917; known as T. Alonzo Trace) was a former Chief of Police for the City of Charlottesville Police Department (1902-1914). Trice was elected Chief of Police by the city council to fill the unexpired term of the late Chief Frank P. Farish. Chief Trice was succeeded by D. C. Grady in 1914.
Thomas Alonza Trace was a native of Louisa County. He served in the Confederate Army and at the close of the war, came to Albemarle County and located near Covesville, where he was engaged in farming. For 25 year he was a resident of Charlottesville.
Mr. Trice married Bettie Bates, of Batesville. They had one daughter. He died in Albemarle County at aged 71 and was buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
