The Tavern was a restaurant located in the Meadowbrook Shopping Centre on the southeast corner of Emmet Street and Barracks Road that opened in 1954[1] and closed December 24, 2011.[2] At one point, the restaurant was called Sarge's. [citation needed]

Closing
The Tavern's lease expired at the end of December 2011. Property owner Clara Belle Wheeler had told Tavern owner Shelly Gordon she would only give a short-term extension, resulting in Gordon's decision to close at that time[1] Gordon predicted in a 2002 C-Ville Weekly article that the restaurant would only be open for several more years because of changes to the way management was handling relations with Meadowbrook tenants.
