The Charlottesville Advocate was a weekly newspaper in publication beginning in 1860. It was the successor to the Virginia Advocate and The Central Gazette. [1] Referred to as the Readjuster paper, it folded sometime before the end of the 19th century.
In 1880, J. Harvey Wartman, a member of the Democratic Party and Readjuster Party, resigned the position of editor and returned to Harrisonburg. James P. Wood, of Richmond took over the position as editor.[2]
