- 1871 – The first public school in Charlottesville, of which there is an authentic record, was opened under the principalship of M. Virginia Patterson.
- 1904 – Fannie Crawford McCue, wife of former mayor J. Samuel McCue, was found murdered in their home on Park Street. The Murder trial of J. Samuel McCue would spark one of the most involving murder trials in the City’s history as chronicled almost daily in the headlines and features of the local newspaper, The Daily Progress.
