- 1963 – Nine years after the U.S. Supreme Court declared racial segregation of public schools unconstitutional, 26 African-American students desegregated Albemarle High, Stone-Robinson Elementary, and Greenwood School. Eighteen students formerly at Rose Hill Elementary in Charlottesville, were the first to desegregate Stone-Robinson Elementary.
- 2015 – Dr. Virginius Bray Thornton III, the first Black student to matriculate into the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences at the University of Virginia, died at the age of 81.
