  • 1776 – first session of the new House of Delegates began. Thomas Jefferson represented Albemarle County until his election as governor of Virginia late in the spring of 1779.
  • 1899 – A bust of Edgar Allen Poe was unveiled at the University of Virginia Library on the 50th anniversary of the author and poet's death.
