- 1817 – The cornerstone of the University of Virginia was laid; this event marked the beginning of the University’s construction. Over the next decade, hundreds of free and enslaved laborers would come together to construct the Academical Village.
- 1906 – Led by William C. "King" Cole in his second and final season as head coach, the University of Virginia (UVA) football team played a home game at Madison Hall Field against North Carolina Agricultural and Mechanical College (A&M). The final score was tied (0-0).
- 1915 – Henry Martin dies in Charlottesville. He was the head janitor and bell-ringer at the University of Virginia for over 60 years.
