  • 1888 – Mayor R. F. Harris resigned due to ill health, the Board of Alderman elected council president Samuel B. Woods as replacement.
  • 1959 – Piedmont Airlines Flight 349 crashed into Bucks Elbow Mountain about 13 miles west of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport. The crew of 3 and 23 of 24 passengers were killed; the sole survivor was seriously injured. The aircraft, a DC-3, was demolished by impact. Flight 349 was a regularly scheduled flight between Washington, D.C., and Roanoke Virginia, with intermediate stops at Charlottesville and Lynchburg.
  • 2015 – The Violet Crown Cinema Charlottesville opens on the Downtown Mall where the Regal Cinemas once operated.
