- 1887 – James Alexander, the editor and publisher of the Jeffersonian Republican newspaper, died.
- 1932 – Pro Football Hall of Fame left tackle Roosevelt "Rosie" Brown was born in Charlottesville near what is now called the Starr Hill and the Fifeville and Tonsler Neighborhoods Historic District neighborhoods.
- 1981 – The Delevan Baptist Church was placed in the Virginia Landmarks Register.
- 1995 – K. W. Allen, a longtime Charlottesville grocer, died. Allen's is the last known burial at the Daughters of Zion Cemetery.
