- 1824 – The Marquis de Lafayette was a guest at a banquet held at the University of Virginia near Charlottesville, in tribute to his role in the American Revolution. This event was part of his Farewell Tour of the United States.
- 1904 – In the presidential election, Charlottesville gave Democratic nominee Alton B. Parker 83.55% of the 468 votes cast, but Republican Theodore Roosevelt won nationally. Pine Knot in Albemarle County became a country home for the Roosevelts during his presidency.
- 1947 – Due to a main supply line break, City Manager Seth Burnley asked Charlottesville residents to reduce water use as reserves dropped to about half a million gallons, down from the usual 3 million.
