- 1806 – In Washington, D.C., President Thomas Jefferson publicly warns citizens not to take part in a plot to invade Spanish territory. Jefferson issues this warning after having been told of Aaron Burr's subversive activities with respect to annexing Spanish territory.
- 1893 – Former Charlottesville Mayor R. F. Harris died at the age of 66.
- 2009 – After closing for renovations in 2006, the Jefferson Theater on the Downtown Mall re-opens as a music venue. The building dates back to 1912.
