- 1836 – A riot erupted at the University of Virginia when members of the student drilling company commandeered the Rotunda and damaged University property.
- 1840 – John A. G. Davis, a professor at the University of Virginia, was shot by a rioting student outside Pavilion X on the Lawn. He died two days later and was buried at the University of Virginia Cemetery.
- 1919 – U.S. Senator Thomas S. Martin died at his Albemarle County estate, "Montesano."
- 1925 – Charlottesville's First United Methodist Church held its first service in a new church building.
