• 1927 – In the Buck v. Bell decision, the United States Supreme Court upheld a Virginia statute that provided for the eugenic sterilization for people considered genetically unfit.
• 2017 – Dutch Vogt, the first Republican to serve as mayor of Charlottesville since 1871, died.
