- 1911 – University of Virginia president Edwin A. Alderman traveled to Washington, D.C. to speak at a University of Virginia alumni meeting alongside U.S. President William Howard Taft and other national figures.
- 1927 – In the Buck v. Bell decision, the United States Supreme Court upheld a Virginia statute that provided for the eugenic sterilization for people considered genetically unfit.
- 2017 – Dutch Vogt, the first Republican to serve as mayor of Charlottesville since 1871, died.
