- 1744 – Sophia Charlotte]], the future Queen Charlotte and namesake of Charlottesville, was born in Germany.
- 1924 – J. F. Harlan, a longtime West Main Street merchant, died.
- 1951 – The Thomas Jefferson Inn opened. The building later became part of the Federal Executive Institute.
- 2022 – A Virginia historic marker honoring Gregory Hayes Swanson was unveiled outside the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library's Central Branch.
