- 1801 – After defeating incumbent John Adams in the 1800 presidential election, Thomas Jefferson becomes the first US President to be inaugurated in Washington, D.C.
- 1809 – Thomas Jefferson retires from public office, and James Madison is inaugurated president. Jefferson leaves Washington and returns to his home, Monticello. He never leaves Virginia again. He spent his remaining years tending to the daily operation of his plantation, planning the University of Virginia, and hosting his friends and other esteemed guests.
- 1810 – Egbert R. Watson is born at "Forest Hill," near Milton.
- 1825 – Thomas Jefferson's plans for The Anatomical Theatre were approved by the Board of Visitors.
- 1865 – Union Civil War General Philip H. Sheridan’s men arrive in Charlottesville and spent the weekend doing considerable damage to the town and surrounding area.
- 1884 – Shelton Leake, a nineteenth-century politician, lawyer and teacher from Albemarle County, who served as Virginia’s first lieutenant governor, died.
