- 1776 – Jane Randolph Jefferson died suddenly of apoplexy (stroke) at Shadwell plantation. Her son, Thomas Jefferson, recorded the event in his journal: “My mother died about 8 o’clock this morning, in her fifty-seventh year of age.” She was buried in the family graveyard at Monticello.
- 1870 – The Charlottesville Board of Aldermen meets at the National Bank, with N. H. Massie qualifying as mayor and officials calling for a public meeting to nominate a permanent mayor and address assistance for the town’s poor.
