March 30:

  • 1960 – A dramatic fire swept through the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 389, originally built in 1902 at 411 East High Street. The blaze destroyed the building’s portico and the large-antlered elk head mounted above the entrance.
  • 2020 – During the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Ralph Northam issued a stay-at-home order in Virginia to limit the spread of the virus. The order restricted non-essential movement and business operations and expired on June 10, 2020, after 72 days, marking the official end of the mandatory restrictions.
