• 1825 – The University of Virginia continues its first academic session, marking the early operation of Thomas Jefferson’s newly established university.
• 1870 – N. H. Massie qualifies as mayor, and the newly appointed Board of Aldermen holds its first meeting at the Charlottesville National Bank, marking the reorganization of city government during Reconstruction.
• 1935 – Floodwaters along the James River remain at or near crest, prolonging the isolation of Charlottesville and leaving Scottsville largely inundated.
