- 1922 – The Virginia General Assembly approved a new charter for the City of Charlottesville, replacing the 12-member bicameral Board of Aldermen and Common Council, as well as the city-wide elected mayor, with a three-member city commission. This charter reorganized municipal government and laid the foundation for the modern City Council system.
- 1935 – City communications with the world cut off; Scottsville under water.
