• 1907 – Julia Magruder, author of sixteen novels, many short stories, and a number of essays on social issues, died in Richmond, Va. (aged 51). She is buried next to her parents in Charlottesville’s Maplewood Cemetery.
• 2004 – Pro Football Hall of Fame left tackle Roosevelt "Rosie" Brown, a native of Charlottesville, died after suffering a heart attack while tending his garden at his home in the Columbus, New Jersey, (aged 71).
