- 1776 – Congress named Thomas Jefferson to a five-man committee to prepare a Declaration of Independence for the new United States of America.
- 1887 – The Charlottesville and University Street Railway Company began operations with a five-mile network of rails in Charlottesville.
- 2021 – The George Rogers Clark statue, located on University Avenue in the Corner district on the grounds, was removed by the University of Virginia. Funded by Paul Goodloe McIntire and sculpted by Robert Ingersoll Aitken, it was unveiled in 1921.
