  • 1934Albemarle County Attorney John S. Graves files a writ of mandamus to the Virginia Supreme Court seeking the ouster of Treasurer Stuart Hamm. Hamm claimed he was still the elected treasurer and his attorney, Lyttleton Waddell, filed his response.
  • 1934Elsie Barksdale Ray is shot and killed by a Mrs. William Casey over an alleged affair.
  • 1967 – Birthday of singer-songwriter, musician, actor, and winemaker Dave Matthews. Born in Johannesburg, he formed the Dave Matthews Band in Charlottesville, a jam band that owns the distinction of selling more tickets in the decade during 2000-2010 and earning more money than any other act in North America.
