• 1805 – Thomas Jefferson writes to Littleton W. Tazewell, suggesting that a university “should not be a house but a village.”
• 1927 – Homer Ragland, longtime courthouse janitor and subject of a portrait in the Holsinger Studio Collection, dies in Charlottesville and is buried at "Kelley's Lower End."
• 2023 – At the close of a regular council meeting, Sena Magill announces her resignation from Charlottesville City Council to focus on family. In the 2019 election, she had received the highest number of votes ever recorded for a council candidate.
