- 1811 – The Virginia General Assembly authorized the Rivanna Navigation Company to improve navigation along the Rivanna River "from the town of Columbia, in the county of Fluvanna, to the town of Milton, in the county of Albemarle".
- 1820 – Brothers Clement Pynes and John Harris McKennie established The Central Gazette; they published the weekly paper until July 1827, after which it was succeeded by the Virginia Advocate.
