- 1715 – Thomas Walker, Jr. is born; physician, planter, explorer, and later guardian of Thomas Jefferson.
- 1819 – The General Assembly charters the University of Virginia in Charlottesville as a nonsectarian institution without clergy, following TJ’s vision.
