- 1870 – The 15th Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified, granting Black men in Charlottesville and Albemarle County the legal right to vote. This marked the first time formerly enslaved citizens could participate in local, state, and national elections.
- 1890 – Isabella Gibbons, one of the first teachers at the Jefferson School, died.
- 2020 – Anne Hunter became director of Live Arts.
