- 1769 – Nimrod Bramham was born.
- 1864 – 1,500 Union soldiers, under the command of Brig. Gen. George A. Custer, advanced towards Charlottesville in an attempt to divert attention away from the main focus of freeing prisoners of war being held in Richmond.
- 1933 – After a brief illness, Elbridge G. Haden, well know realtor and mayor of the city for four terms, died at his home, "The Tower House" on Park Street.
- 1976 – In the town of Scottsville, fire destroyed the Dansey's lumber business, a 140-year-old Methodist Church and a century-old feed mill and general store, plus several nearby outbuildings, and heavily damaged two houses.
- 1977 – On main street in Scottsville, while the town fire department was away battling a blaze in an abandoned house at Schuyler, 16 miles away, a fire broke out at the old Flour Mills, a mammoth four story building. For nearly two weeks, arson inspectors from the state fire marshall's office would probe the still-smoldering rubble.
