- 1898 – Capt. S. M. Keller, the first Chief of the Charlottesville Police Department, died in office (aged 72).
- 1922 – Charles Edgar, a prominent Charlottesville citizen and local business entrepreneur in the late 19th and early 20th century, died in Miami Beach, Florida.
- 2002 – While attending the FBI National Academy, Police Lieutenant Robert Eugene Frazier Jr. suffered a fatal heart attack jogging to a nearby track.
