- 1827 – Colorful local figure Ben Ficklin, a soldier, adventurer, and entrepreneur - known for starting the Pony Express and arrest in connection with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, was born in Albemarle County.
- 1865 – The Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution, outlawing slavery, officially entered into force. There were 13,916 slaves and 606 free people of color living in Albemarle in 1860.
- 1922 – In police court this morning, J. A. Tierny, proprietor of the “Tumble Inn” restaurant, on West Main Street, was fined $250 on a charge of violating the prohibition law.
- 1960 – Hubert A. Stecker, former Charlottesville city manager, died in San Francisco, California.
