• 1788 – Thomas Jefferson wrote a letter to Chief Justice John Jay regarding ongoing Constitutional discussions during the period of ratification. This correspondence addressed key issues shaping the final draft.
• 1797 – In a letter dated August 3, James Monroe informed Jefferson about discussions with Alexander Hamilton in New York and Philadelphia concerning the Reynolds affair. It also urged Jefferson to publicly acknowledge a controversial letter to Philip Mazzei.
