• 1861 – Capt. J. B. S. Alexander, Confederate officer and West Point graduate, died of typhoid fever at Allegheny Springs at age 25. He had recently resigned from the U.S. Army to serve in the Army of Northern Virginia and is buried in Maplewood Cemetery.
• 1991 – Darden Towe, Charlottesville attorney, city councilor (1970–1978), and namesake of Darden Towe Park, died at age 56.
