- 1883 – Mary Truehart Woodfolk, born to Sallie Kimbo and John Truehart of Albemarle County, was an active member of Mount Zion First African Baptist Church and namesake of Woodfolk Drive.
- 1900 – Charles Scott Venable, University of Virginia professor, mathematician, astronomer, and Civil War officer, died. Venable Elementary School in Charlottesville, named in his honor, was established in 1925 (renamed Trailblazer Elementary in 2023).
