• 1882 – John R. Morris, of a prominent Albemarle County family, was born at Edgemont near Hydraulic on the Rivanna River.
• 1897 – The Albemarle Telephone Company was incorporated.
• 1904 – Construction began on the Federal courthouse and post office in Charlottesville, now the Central Library of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library.
