- 1882 – John R. Morris, member of a family long prominent in Albemarle, was born at "Edgemont," the old Wingfield homestead, some eight miles north of Charlottesville on the Rivanna River near Hydraulic.
- 1897 – The Albemarle Telephone Company was organized and incorporated.
- 1904 – Work on the new Federal courthouse and post office began. It is now home to the Central Library of the Jefferson Madison Regional Library.
