- 1802 – Thomas Walker Gilmer, was born at “Gilmerton” in Albemarle.
- 1865 – The 19th Virginia Infantry, composed mostly of men from Charlottesville and Albemarle County, surrenders its thirty remaining men to Union forces following the Battle of Sailor's Creek.
- 1939 – Beta, the first unofficial canine mascot adopted by the University of Virginia's football team, was hit by an automobile on Rugby Road. He was buried with much fanfare in the University of Virginia Cemetery.
- 1951 – John R. Morris, first mayor/councilor of Charlottesville under the new commission form of government, died (aged 61).
