  • 1939 – Professional baseball pitcher "Bud" Thomas surrendered the first major League home run ever hit by Red Sox legend Ted Williams. Bud pitched to Babe Ruth twice, striking him out the second time. Thomas played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Washington Senators, Philadelphia Athletics, and Detroit Tigers. He was born in Faber and died in North Garden, Virginia.
  • 1989 – At the Four Seasons restaurant in New York, wine merchant William Sokolin breaks a bottle of 1787 Château Margaux, possibly belonging to Thomas Jefferson, worth $500,000
