- 1861 – Civil War: The Scottsville Guard, a militia unit commanded by Captain Henry Gantt, received a telegram ordering them to arms. They were assigned to board a train from Charlottesville to seize weapons at Harpers Ferry.
- 1902 – Monticello lost a longtime resident when Willis Sheldon, gatekeeper for nearly 50 years, died on Jefferson’s mountain. According to the Daily Progress, he was buried in the “colored burying grounds” near the mansion.
- 1991 – The newly formed Dave Matthews Band, joined by violinist Boyd Tinsley of the Boyd Tinsley Band, played their first public performance at Charlottesville’s Earth Day Festival.
- 2006 – The Free Speech Monument was dedicated on the Downtown Mall.
- 2019 – The City of Charlottesville officially opened the McIntire Park pedestrian bridge and McIntire Skate Park.
- 2020 – The Downtown Grille announced its closure after more than 20 years of business on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall.
